Route 61

Driving the Delta in search of the Devil. Traveling on the historic Blues Trail- Route 61 in the Mississippi Delta from New Orleans to Memphis. It’s the land where the Blues began . Where legend has it, Robert Johnson “me and the Devil” – sold the soul to the devil in return for mastering the guitar. This deal was said to take place at the Crossroad “of the road 49 and 61.

Today, the music heritage is being preserved throughout the region with such place as Morgan Freeman’s Ground Zero Blues Club and Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, MS. The original juke joints, while fewer in number, can still transport your soul to a different era.

At the Blues Front Café, Jimmy  “the Duck Holmes will tell you he’s the last of the true bluesman, playing in Bentonia style pioneered by Skip James.  In the cotton plantations, the Mississippi River and fried pickles, the music and the vibe is still alive.
